(Borreria laevis)
It is a well-known herb on the island of Puerto Rico. It grows on vacant lots and is easily grown in moist areas and partial shade. It grows covering the ground with fine, oval leaves, with small white flowers. Traditionally, the leaves and inflorescence have been used as an infusion as a diuretic remedy and very effective in cases of kidney and gallbladder stones. It is also used occasionally in cases of cold and flu. The roots have a strong emetic quality and are used in cases of arterial hypertension.
